About Squaxin
The Squaxin Island Tribe, known as the People of the Water, is a sovereign Tribal nation rooted in the maritime cultures of South Puget Sound. Its people are descendants of communities who have lived along the southern Salish Sea’s inlets for generations, and the Tribe shares its history, cultural traditions, and connection to these waters through educational resources, community programs, and visitor information.
The Tribe provides a broad range of services for members and the wider community. These include medical, dental, behavioral health, pharmacy, and referred-care services, alongside family services, youth programs, an elders program, and community resources such as a pool, parks and recreation, a community kitchen, and Salish Roots Farm. Squaxin Transit offers weekday transportation, while the Natural Resources Department shares regulations for fishing, hunting, shellfish, and other aquatic resources. The Tribe also supports cultural preservation, planning and community development, public safety, and economic development. Its website provides information about governance, enrollment, events, employment, and ways to visit and learn about Squaxin Island culture.
