About SquirrelMail
SquirrelMail is an open-source webmail project that provides browser-based access to email. Maintained by the SquirrelMail Project Team and supported by a community of contributors, the software is designed for administrators to install and manage, with releases and development snapshots available for download. The project’s website offers documentation, security notices, release information, support resources, and guidance for users and administrators.
SquirrelMail can be extended through plugins that add or adapt email features. Examples listed by the project include hardware authentication with YubiKey, SMTP and login authentication, autocomplete, multiple attachments, S/MIME verification, and options for managing sent folders and sender identities. The project also publishes updates addressing compatibility, performance, stability, bugs, and security issues, and encourages users to report problems and suggest improvements.
Rather than presenting a commercial service, SquirrelMail is a downloadable software project with community-oriented resources. Its website also provides project news, screenshots, information about contributors and sponsors, and ways to support the project, helping administrators evaluate, install, and maintain the webmail application.
