The Chemical Biology Department of Peking University’s School of Pharmaceutical Sciences is an academic and research department established in 2000. It brings together expertise in bioinorganic chemistry, bioorganic chemistry, and pharmaceutical analysis, following the integration of its pharmaceutical analysis group in 2003. The department supports undergraduate and postgraduate education, offering courses for undergraduate students as well as master’s and doctoral programmes.

Its research spans bioinorganic and inorganic medicinal chemistry, pharmaceutical analysis, bioorganic chemistry and the biological functions of small organic molecules, carbohydrate chemistry and chemical glycobiology, heterocycle synthesis, preventive pharmacy, and the development of new selenium-containing medicines. The department also shares selected publications and information about its research groups, faculty, academic programmes, and graduate supervisors. Its team includes professors, associate professors, lecturers, doctoral and master’s supervisors, and an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Based in Beijing, the department combines teaching and scientific research to advance chemical biology and pharmaceutical sciences, with particular attention to understanding disease processes and investigating drug effects, including therapeutic benefits and potential adverse effects
