About SRCF
The Student-Run Computing Facility (SRCF) is a unique initiative at the University of Cambridge, established in 1999 to provide essential computing services that were not available through University administration. Operating entirely through volunteer efforts, the SRCF offers a range of services, including web hosting, shell accounts, mailing lists, and standards-compliant email solutions. It is open to all University members, who can register as lifetime members without any fees, provided they adhere to the Terms of Service.
Managed by a dedicated executive committee of current and former students, the SRCF relies on donations and volunteer assistance to sustain its operations. The organization serves as an important resource for student societies and aims to foster a community focused on learning and collaboration in technology. Its infrastructure operates primarily on Ubuntu Linux, emphasizing accessibility and stability. By encouraging participation in its support teams and sysadmin roles, the SRCF not only meets technological needs but also enhances the educational experience of its members.
