About South Rupununi Conservation Society
The South Rupununi Conservation Society (SRCS) is the leading grassroots conservation group in Guyana. Since 2002, their community-run organization has been dedicated to preserving the wildlife, environment, and culture of the Rupununi region. Comprised of farmers, hunters, school children, business people, and more, they are the people who call the Rupununi their home.
With a focus on education, research, and conservation, SRCS aims to sustain and protect the wildlife of their home. In 2023, their initiatives include environmental education, Red Siskin and Giant Anteater research and conservation, Yellow Spotted River Turtle research, monitoring the impact of fire on wildlife, preservation of Traditional Knowledge, and research into undiscovered mammals. Their efforts have garnered recognition, as they have recently been awarded the prestigious 2023 Parker Gentry Award for their significant impact on environmental conservation.
