Shorinjiryu Renshinkan Heinola ry is a karate club based in Heinola, Finland, offering instruction in the Shorinji-ryu Renshinkan style. Founded in autumn 2012 to bring this style of karate to the local community, the club welcomes people of all ages and provides opportunities to train without the pressure to compete. Children and young people have been part of the club from its earliest beginner courses, while members who choose to compete can pursue opportunities at national and international events.
The club’s students have achieved success in Finnish championships across age groups. At the style’s 2015 world championships in Taiwan, club member Atte Kukkula won a historic silver medal in kata, becoming the first Westerner to reach a kata final. In 2019, head instructor Tommi Tynjä placed fifth in heavyweight sparring at the world championships in Fukuoka, Japan.
Beginner courses typically start in autumn, with continuation courses in spring, although joining at other times may be possible.
