The Sejong Scholarship Foundation of America (SSFA) is a volunteer-run 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 1997 by Korean-American immigrants. Serving the Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia area, the foundation supports students whose academic promise is matched by financial need. Its need- and merit-based scholarships help graduating high school seniors and current college students afford their education. Since its founding, SSFA has awarded more than $745,000 in scholarships and supported over 747 students.
The foundation also offers programs that encourage creativity, confidence, and community involvement. Its free annual art contest is open to Kβ12 students and recognizes young artists with trophies and cash prizes. A speech contest gives students opportunities to develop their public-speaking skills. SSFA hosts events and shares student stories to celebrate participants and raise support for its programs. Donations directly fund scholarships and student initiatives, and are tax-deductible. Inspired by King Sejongβs belief in the importance of shared knowledge, SSFA works to expand educational opportunity and help young people shape their futures.
