About Shakespeare Schools Festival Africa
Shakespeare School Festival South Africa (SSFSA) is an educational program that uses the performing arts to improve language and social skills among children. The festival aims to unite children from diverse backgrounds in Southern Africa and empower them to transform their lives through the unique power of theater and Shakespeare's works. Since its inception in 2010, it has become Africa's largest Shakespeare youth drama program, working with over 490 schools, 9000 youth, and 670 teachers across various regions.
Alongside the annual Festival, SSFSA offers training programs for teachers and young learner directors, preparing them for their performances. They are dedicated to reaching children with special educational needs, promoting life skills, social cohesion, ambition, and educational entertainment. With their creative approach to education, young people change their attitude towards learning.
SSFSA provides guidance and resources, ensuring successful performances of Shakespearean plays from start to finish. By encouraging schools to explore unique productions and cultural representation, the festival continues to make Shakespeare relevant in South Africa
