The South Saskatchewan Independent Living Centre (SSILC) is a registered not-for-profit organization working to promote the full citizenship, accessibility and inclusion of people with disabilities in the community. Its programs focus on practical support that helps individuals pursue employment, explore self-employment and develop independent living skills.
SSILC’s Employment Services Program offers coaching, encouragement and help creating and monitoring a realistic action plan for people seeking work, whether they are entering the workforce for the first time or returning to it. The Entrepreneurs with Disabilities Program supports people with disabilities or health conditions who are considering self-employment or looking to start, maintain or grow a business. Services include one-to-one business counselling, mentoring, training, resources and accommodation supports.
Through its Supported Independent Living Program, SSILC pairs people with intellectual disabilities with support workers who assist with skills for living in their own homes. Support may include budgeting, home organization, meal planning, grocery shopping, community resource awareness, peer support and leisure activities.
