The SSIP Forum is an umbrella organization that aims to promote mutual recognition between health and safety assessment schemes. It was founded in May 2009, with the support of the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), to simplify prequalification processes and encourage streamlined cooperation among its Member Schemes. The assessments conducted by these Member Schemes adhere to the SSIP Core Criteria, which aligns with the government-backed construction pre-qualification document PAS 91, ensuring consistency in supply chain management.
The idea for the SSIP Forum emerged in 2007 when the revised Construction (Design & Management) Regulations introduced the Stage 1 Core Criteria for assessing health and safety competence in the construction industry. SSIP assessments are based on these core criteria, which outline the basic requirements for compliance with health and safety legislation. The Forum actively advises and guides clients (buyers) on the appropriate interpretation and standards of health and safety competence.
By facilitating mutual recognition and promoting uniform standards, the SSIP Forum aims to reduce duplication in occupational health and safety assessments. It plays a crucial role in supporting both public and private sector clients (buyers) in efficiently assessing the health and safety competence of contractors and consultants. With its mission to streamline and simplify procurement processes, the SSIP Forum contributes to the overall improvement of workplace safety
