The Sault Ste. Marie Humane Society, established in 1925, is a dedicated animal welfare organization committed to advocating for the care and protection of animals in the Sault Ste. Marie area. Operating as a managed-intake shelter, the Society provides essential services such as emergency medical care, spay and neuter programs, and foster care for vulnerable animals. Supported entirely through donations and fundraising efforts, the organization focuses on ending pet overpopulation and enhancing community outreach through humane education initiatives.

One of their remarkable programs is the C.A.R.E. fund (Compassionate Animal Response Efforts), which helps cover veterinary care for neglected animals, emergency services, and post-adoption medical assistance. The Society proudly boasts a history of improving animal welfare, reversing adoption and euthanasia rates, and providing a safe haven for thousands of animals. Through the unwavering efforts of volunteers and staff, the Sault Ste. Marie Humane Society continues to shape a kinder community for both animals and children, embodying their mission to protect the voiceless.
