Founded in 1986 by a group of inspired social workers, the Society for Social Service (SSS) is a pro-poor non-governmental development organization aspiring for a just and peaceful society free from hunger and all sorts of human miseries, specifically working for the disadvantaged and downtrodden communities of Bangladesh. Headquartered at SSS Bhaban in Lalmatia, Mohammadpur, Dhaka, with its foundation office in Tangail, SSS operates a broad range of programmes spanning both financial and social development. Financial programmes include a Microfinance Programme, savings services, remittance, and the Surokhha Fund.

Social programmes encompass charity and welfare activities, disaster management, poultry and livestock resource development, agriculture extension, training, education and child development, health services, and care for the elderly. The organization also maintains dedicated departments for operations, human resources, finance, research and publication, and internal audit — reflecting an institutionalized, transparent approach to its development mission across Bangladesh
