Stadttauben in Dresden

Stadttauben-Initiative Dresden e. V. is a nonprofit, volunteer-run organization dedicated to helping city pigeons in Dresden. Founded in 2018, the association views these birds as domesticated animals and works to provide them with humane care and safer living conditions.

Its services include a care station for injured or unwell pigeons, where birds receive treatment and support as they recover from minor illnesses and injuries. The initiative also manages pigeon lofts and aviaries, offering permanent, supervised homes with appropriate food and regular monitoring. To help control pigeon populations without killing birds, volunteers exchange fresh eggs for plaster eggs in the managed lofts.

The association responds to reports of pigeons in distress and welcomes volunteers to assist with animal rescue, loft and aviary care, foster care, outreach, and other projects. It also invites property owners to explore installing a managed loft or aviary as a humane alternative to unwanted nesting sites. Donations support veterinary care, medication, food, supplies, and daily care. The initiative also offers sponsorships for pigeons needing ongoing support.
