Starr Environmental, founded by biologists Forest and Kim Starr, specializes in providing comprehensive botanical and faunal surveys across Hawaii, with a strong focus on Maui. With decades of experience in the conservation field, the duo transitioned from their roots in real estate and hospitality to environmental consulting in 1997. They have conducted vital surveys on plants, insects, birds, and bats, supporting various planning and management efforts in the state.

Forest, a Maui native, and Kim, who has Hawaiian heritage and grew up on the mainland, share a passion for the natural beauty of Hawaii. Although they retired from the University of Hawaii in 2023, they continue to offer consulting services, primarily focusing on flora and fauna surveys. Their extensive work has spanned from Kona to Kure Atoll, making them a trusted resource for environmental assessments.

Starr Environmental also provides free resources and publications to contribute to the knowledge of Hawaii’s unique ecosystems
