The European Network on Statelessness (ENS) is a civil society network working to protect the rights of stateless people and prevent and reduce statelessness across Europe. It highlights that more than 500,000 people in Europe are stateless—meaning no state recognises them as its citizen—and works to address the exclusion and barriers they face. ENS pursues its mission through law and policy development, awareness-raising, and capacity-building, while working alongside stateless people and its members.
Its priorities include ending childhood statelessness, ensuring nationality rights, supporting stateless refugees and migrants, protecting stateless minorities, and preventing arbitrary detention. The network also provides practical information and research tools, including the Statelessness Index, which compares European countries’ laws and practices, and a case law database covering decisions related to statelessness and connected human rights issues. Its broader resource library features publications, blogs, interviews, videos, and event information.
