About State of CDR
The State of Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) is a collaborative initiative focused on assessing the current landscape of carbon dioxide removal strategies and identifying pathways to effectively close existing gaps. Spearheaded by a team of prominent academics, including Oliver Geden and Matthew J. Gidden, the project aims to foster a community dedicated to the responsible and equitable scaling of CDR technologies. The initiative is anchored by the insightful contributions from the University of Oxford’s Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment, alongside support from various esteemed foundations and research grants including those from Quadrature Climate Foundation and the European Research Council.
The annual report serves as a crucial resource for stakeholders in the climate sector, providing a comprehensive overview of the methodologies, challenges, and advancements in CDR. Committed to bridging data gaps, the project encourages collaboration among researchers, policymakers, and industry leaders to promote innovative solutions for mitigating climate change. The 2024 edition continues to build on this vital mission, advocating for actionable change and environmental stewardship.
