Organic Seed Alliance is an organization working to strengthen organic seed systems in the United States and advance the principles of the organic movement. It promotes organic seed as a foundation of organic integrity and a way to support agricultural resilience, farmer choice, and a healthier environment. Its work addresses challenges including climate change, pesticide use, genetically modified organisms, and consolidation in the seed industry.
A central initiative is State of Organic Seed, an ongoing project that monitors the development of U.S. organic seed systems. Every five years, the Alliance publishes a progress report and action plan focused on expanding the supply of organic seed, fostering networks of seed growers, and encouraging policies that decentralize ownership and decision-making. Its 2022 report shares findings on organic seed use and the continuing reliance of many organic farmers on non-organic seed.
The Alliance also provides educational resources about the importance of organic seed and ways to support its use.
