In May 2023, CBS announced a major shakeup by dropping the CW affiliation on 8 of their stations, including WUPA in Atlanta, WKBD in Detroit, KMAX in Sacramento, KBCW in San Francisco, KSTW in Seattle, WTOG in Tampa, WPSG in Philadelphia, and WPCW in Pittsburgh.
Additionally, in June 2022, the Federal Communications Commission completed an auction for eighteen new full-power television stations in the United States. Weigel Broadcasting secured six stations, while Gray Television acquired five stations. Furthermore, in September 2020, E.
W. Scripps reached an agreement to acquire Ion Media for $2. 65 billion, expanding their over-the-air television reach across the entire United States.
In March 2020, Fox Television Stations and Nexstar completed a transaction where Fox added several affiliates to their owned and operated stations, while Nexstar acquired stations in Charlotte. In November 2018, LBI Media/Liberman Broadcasting filed for bankruptcy, but their stations and Estrella TV network are expected to continue operating post-bankruptcy.
