About St Claire Art
Stephen St. Claire is an artist based in Asheville, NC known for his stunning landscape and abstract oil paintings. Using his unique technique called Dialuminism, which means light passing through, St.
Claire combines metal leaf and oil paint within layers of solar resistant resin or archival satin varnish to create dimensional paintings with a reflective quality. The light plays off different areas of the artwork, casting shadows and creating an ever-changing appearance depending on the viewer's position in relation to the light source. St.
Claire draws inspiration from ancient art forms, particularly Greek Orthodox Icons painted on gold leaf, which he encountered during a visit to an art festival. Every painting he creates begins with a spark of creativity launched off the face of an icon. Browse his portfolio, learn about his artistic process, and enjoy insightful musings on his blog.
