About Ministry of Steel
The Ministry of Steel, a key institution of the Government of India, plays a vital role in the strategic planning and development of the country's iron and steel industry. This encompasses all sectors of production, including re-rolling mills, alloy steel, ferro alloys, and refractories, facilitating growth in both the public and private sectors. The Ministry is tasked with overseeing national policies, ensuring quality control, and implementing programs like the Production Linked Incentive Scheme for specialty steel, which encourages local manufacturing and innovation.
In addition to policy formulation, the Ministry supports investments and aims to enhance ease of doing business in the steel sector. Its commitment to sustainability is reflected in initiatives like the Greening the Steel Sector roadmap. Through various public sector units such as Steel Authority of India Ltd.
(SAIL) and Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd. (RINL), the Ministry also aims to elevate the domestic steel industry to global standards while addressing environmental concerns
