Stefan Meining

Büro für Umweltüberwachung is an environmental monitoring consultancy led by Stefan Meining, a forestry assessor based in Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany. Established under his leadership in 2005, the bureau supports organisations working to understand and protect forest ecosystems. Its services include organising and conducting field surveys, collecting and managing data, and analysing environmental information.

The bureau’s work covers forest condition assessments, phenology, tree growth and near-ground ozone. Forest surveys examine crown condition, including leaf or needle loss, discoloration and damage caused by insects, parasites, weather extremes or nutrient deficiencies. Phenological monitoring tracks seasonal events such as tree budburst, flowering, fruiting and autumn senescence. Growth assessments consider how site conditions and environmental pressures influence tree development, while ozone monitoring addresses a pollutant that can affect plant health and growth.

Stefan Meining studied forestry at the University of Freiburg and has experience in Canadian forest research and Baden-Württemberg’s forest administration and research institute.
