The Stefan Zweig Society Netherlands is a volunteer organization that brings together readers and literature enthusiasts interested in the life and work of Austrian writer Stefan Zweig. It connects literature with European cultural history and humanism, exploring three themes that remain central to Zweig’s work: humanism, Europe, and the struggle against fanaticism. Through essays, lectures, bibliographic research, and other resources, the society offers contemporary perspectives on these ideas and their relevance today.
Visitors can explore quotations, reading guides, information about Zweig’s connections with the Netherlands, and a selected bibliography of works available in Dutch. Featured titles include Chess Story, The World of Yesterday, Letter from an Unknown Woman, biographies of Erasmus and Castellio, and Zweig’s novel Beware of Pity. The society also shares updates and organizes lectures, with new events announced as they become available. Supported by volunteers, funds, and contributions from friends, the organization invites people to learn about Zweig’s writing and help sustain its projects.
