Stegehus

Stegehus is a non-profit, foundation-run organisation on Vikbolandet in Östergötland, Sweden, providing specialised education and residential care for children and young people with significant support needs. Its services include a residential school for pupils in grades 5–9 and accommodation for ages 10–18: either HVB care under the Social Services Act or LSS housing under the Act concerning Support and Service for Persons with Certain Functional Impairments. The school and accommodation are located together, enabling staff to adapt support to each child’s circumstances and needs and to connect learning with everyday life.

Stegehus aims to offer a safe home, a good education and a stable, meaningful routine, while recognising parents’ continuing role. Its approach draws inspiration from Waldorf education alongside research and methods in education, sociology, psychology and neuroscience. Dogs are also part of the school environment. Stegehus states that it is not intended for young people with substance misuse or criminality, or for those seeking a new family. The school prioritises applicants with the greatest need for its specialised support.
