Stepping Stones is a Missouri-based program supporting people with developmental disabilities as they pursue personal goals, build skills, and develop greater independence. Founded in 1998, the organization has served Greene, Christian, and Webster counties for more than 20 years. Its approach is person-centered: participants are supported with respect and encouraged to make their own decisions about the services they receive and how they live.
Support promotes education, choice in housing and daily life, health and healthcare decisions, community involvement, meaningful experiences, and opportunities for employment. Services include residential support, a day program, personal assistance, community networking, and individualized skills development. They continue until participants feel able to manage independently.
Stepping Stones is co-owned by Nicole Hill and Krista Maul, who bring extensive experience in the field and are involved in the agency’s daily operations. The organization is a member of the Starling provider network and the Springfield Chamber of Commerce. Its stated mission is to help individuals with disabilities become independent while working toward their own goals
