Stevenage & District RDA is a member group of the Riding for the Disabled Association, helping children and adults with disabilities experience the benefits of riding and working with horses. Based at Model Farm in Shillington, the group provides therapeutic riding lessons during school term time for young pupils from three local special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) schools, as well as young adults and independent riders.
Sessions take place on Monday and Thursday mornings, from 9:15 a.m. to noon. Through interaction with ponies and horse riding, participants can gain physical, emotional and social benefits. The group works closely with schools and other organisations so that sessions support wider learning, complementing school curricula and other therapy programmes.
As part of a UK network of around 500 RDA groups, Stevenage & District RDA draws on specialist training, guidance and support to provide safe, effective and rewarding experiences. The charity also welcomes volunteers and invites supporters to donate or sponsor its ponies. It is registered charity number 1074422.
