About Britannia Shipyards NHS
Steveston Heritage Sites invites visitors to explore the history and cultural heritage of Steveston, a historic fishing village in Richmond, British Columbia. Its collection brings together four distinct places: Britannia Shipyards National Historic Site, Steveston Museum and Post Office, Steveston Tram, and London Farm. Together, they tell stories of fishing, canning, boatbuilding, transportation, rural life, and the communities shaped by these industries. The sites also recognize the First Nations peoples who have harvested the region’s lands and waters for thousands of years, and the immigrants from Europe, China, Japan, and elsewhere who worked in local fisheries and canneries.
Visitors can discover heritage buildings and exhibits, see Tram Car 1220, explore a historic farmhouse and gardens, and learn about Steveston’s past through programs and activities. The organization offers events, school and group programs, and resources to help plan a visit. Its sites connect local history with the wider story of the Fraser River and Canada’s west coast fishing industry, making heritage accessible to learners, families, and curious visitors.
