Steve Sue is a Hawaiʻi filmmaker, social entrepreneur and technologist whose work connects storytelling, community initiatives and practical innovation. He produces and directs films exploring aloha, including the award-winning SHAKA, A Story of Aloha, THE 100TH, Seeds of Aloha, and ʻONO, Foods of Aloha. The Shaka project helped inspire a 2024 Hawaiʻi law recognizing the Shaka as the state’s official gesture and the Hawaiʻi DMV Shaka license plate. It has since grown into Global Aloha, a movement led by Hawaiʻi nonprofit ID8 that shares aloha through films, education and community programs.
As chair of ID8, Sue supports initiatives intended to help people, organizations and communities flourish, including entrepreneurship and project-based learning programs. He also created SumoSum.com, an AI-powered business decision platform that helps users research and develop strategies through visual modeling and financial forecasting. His business automation firm, O-WOW, Inc., specializes in custom software, apps and website automation. Sue holds a BA in Design from UCLA and a JD from UC Berkeley, bringing creative and strategic perspectives to his work across media, technology and social enterprise.
