Stichting Achter de Duinen

Stichting Achter de Duinen is a small-scale parent-led initiative in Heemskerk, the Netherlands, established to support young adults with multiple and complex disabilities. The foundation opened ’t Huis Achter de Duinen on 1 December 2014, creating a home where residents’ wellbeing, warmth and personal care are central. Its guiding motto is that when wellbeing takes precedence, care needs may diminish.

As of 2026, the organization provides tailored care for seven residents and daytime activities for two participants, supported by a permanent team of 14 employees and eight volunteers. Its services include residential care and day activities, with information on the home, its environment, residents and support staff available through the foundation. The organization also offers opportunities for volunteers and publishes staff vacancies. Stichting Achter de Duinen is a recognized training company for students and has been designated as an ANBI, a Dutch public-benefit organization. Through its parent-led approach and dedicated team, the foundation aims to foster a supportive living environment shaped around the needs and wellbeing of the people it serves.
