Stichting Buitengewoon Baarle

Stichting BuitenGewoon Baarle is a parent-led foundation established to develop and operate a supported-living community for young adults who need ongoing care. Its residential complex accommodates 16 residents, each with a private living space and access to shared kitchens, dining areas and lounges designed for communal meals and activities. The foundation rents the building and arranges apartment leases for residents, while coordinating round-the-clock professional care based on individual care assessments and in consultation with families. Personal budgets fund care, while residents use their Wajong benefits to pay rent. Day activities and transport are organized separately by parents or guardians.

The initiative is guided by a shared vision document that sets expectations for residents, families and care providers, and informs admissions and ongoing operations. Parents and guardians participate through an association, working groups and advisory committees, and approve important decisions. The foundation also oversees project and financial accountability, arranges agreements with property owners and care organizations, and seeks sponsorships and charitable funding for communal spaces, gardens and entrance areas.
