Stichting Staphorst

Stichting Staphorst is a volunteer-led foundation dedicated to presenting the authentic character of Staphorst and its surrounding area. It works to challenge misconceptions while preserving local traditions, customs, crafts and cultural heritage for future generations. The foundation also highlights Staphorst’s innovative businesses and forward-looking community, connecting its historic roots with contemporary life.

Its main public offering is the annual Staphorstdagen, held across three Wednesdays during the summer holiday period. The event welcomes thousands of visitors and offers an accessible introduction to local culture through demonstrations and activities. Guests can see traditional rope making, Staphorster stipwork, clog making and the witches’ weighing scale, learn about regional dress, and attend costume shows. In a field beside Staphorster Kerkweg, farmers demonstrate rye harvesting and showcase the use of modern agricultural machinery.

Stichting Staphorst collaborates with local organizations, including the Historical Association and Museum Staphorst, to bring these experiences to visitors. Through its events and cultural outreach, the foundation encourages community connection, hospitality and appreciation of Staphorst’s heritage and present-day enterprise.
