Stiftung Michael is Germany's oldest private foundation dedicated to the research and combat of epilepsy. Founded in 1962 by Dr. Fritz Harzendorf, a renowned southern German journalist, the foundation is named after his son Michael, who suffered from epilepsy from a young age.
The primary objective of Stiftung Michael is to study the causes and treatment methods of seizure disorders, as well as address their individual and social consequences. The foundation's work encompasses three main areas. Firstly, it fosters scientific research by stimulating studies and granting prestigious awards such as the Michael Prize and the newly established Harald Fey Prize.
Secondly, it focuses on epilepsy education and training through the annual Epilepsy and EEG Seminar and offers scholarships to support young doctors in their career development. Lastly, Stiftung Michael provides invaluable social medical support by publishing information booklets on diverse epilepsy-related topics and recognizing outstanding contributions to the field through the Sibylle-Ried Prize. As a non-profit organization, Stiftung Michael relies on the generosity of donors to continue its important work
