The River Stinchar District Salmon Fishery Board promotes the conservation and management of the River Stinchar and highlights its economic, cultural and environmental importance to local residents and visiting anglers. The Stinchar rises in the Carrick Forest, north of the Galloway Forest Park, then flows through Barr, Pinwherry and Colmonell before reaching the sea at Ballantrae. Recognised as one of Ayrshireโs most productive salmon rivers, it offers excellent fly fishing, particularly as water levels fall after summer or autumn spates.
The Board shares information about the river, fishing and responsible conduct through its website, including a river code of practice, fishing guidance, photographs and news. It also provides updates on matters affecting the fishery, such as reports of escaped farmed salmon, and publicises Board meetings. Visitors can find links to a fishing Facebook page for catches and local news, a river webcam showing conditions at Colmonell Bridge, and SEPA water-level data for Balnowlart.
