About St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Shrine
Saint John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Shrine in Ottawa is the only Ukrainian Catholic Church in the city, welcoming around 200 registered families. The parish stands out for honoring both the Julian and Gregorian calendars, with liturgical services following both to cater to diverse member preferences. Celebrating festivities like Christmas and Easter twice, according to each calendar, adds a unique touch to the parish's traditions.
Apart from the active Parish Council, the church boasts a vibrant Women’s League and Knights of Columbus Council. The community's summer camp near Ottawa provides a serene retreat for spiritual growth and fellowship. With a rich history dating back to Ukrainian immigration in the early 1900s, the church has grown steadily and now stands as a national monument commemorating the Millennium of Christianity in Ukraine.
