About MSD Project Clear
MSD Project Clear is a brand under the Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District (MSD), which was established in 1954 to provide a comprehensive sewer system for the St. Louis region.
With a rich history dating back to the 1850s, MSD has been a key player in wastewater management in the area. MSD Project Clear was launched in 2012 in response to a consent decree agreement and aims to enhance water quality and address stormwater and wastewater issues. This initiative involves investments of billions of dollars over several years to improve infrastructure, perform maintenance and repairs, and implement community rainscaping projects.
Currently, MSD Project Clear serves approximately 1. 3 million people across 520 square miles and five major watersheds. Their comprehensive system includes wastewater, stormwater, and combined collection sewers, pumping stations, and wastewater treatment facilities.
With over 9,600 miles of collection and trunk sewers and force mains, MSD faces unique challenges due to the blend of old and new infrastructure. They operate approximately 279 pumping stations and seven wastewater treatment facilities that treat over 350 million gallons of wastewater daily. Overall, MSD Project Clear is dedicated to improving water quality, minimizing environmental impact, and ensuring a sustainable and resilient sewer system for the St.
