The World Stone Skimming Championships, held annually on Easdale Island, Scotland, celebrates the art of stone skimming in a vibrant and family-friendly competition. Originally founded in 1983 by Bertie Baker and revived in 1997 as a fundraiser for the Easdale Island Community Development Group, the event now draws over 300 participants from around the globe. Contestants of all ages and skill levels can join in various categories, including Adults, Juniors, and Children, each featuring both Open and Female subcategories.

Participants have the chance to earn prestigious awards such as the World Stone Skimming Cup, slate medals for the top performers, and specific trophies like 'The Bertie' for the best Easdale Islander. With an engaging format, competitors throw naturally formed Easdale slate stones in a bid to achieve the longest skim, adhering to official rules that ensure fairness and sportsmanship. The event fosters community spirit, making it a cherished tradition for both locals and visitors alike.
