**Brand Description: Stony Valley**
Welcome to Stony Valley, a unique and historic destination located just north of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Nestled within State Game Lands #211, Stony Valley, originally known as Saint Anthony's Wilderness, boasts a rich legacy that spans from Moravian missionaries in the 18th century to its transformation into an industrial hub with coal mining, lumbering, and ice harvesting operations.
The valley's historical significance is further emphasized by the Schuylkill & Susquehanna Railroad, which facilitated transport for over 2,000 residents and various industries during its prime. While the coal industry experienced a decline, the railroad's legacy transitioned into the Stony Valley Rail-Trail, one of Pennsylvania’s pioneering rails-to-trails projects.
Today, Stony Valley attracts thousands of visitors each year who are eager to explore its natural beauty and historical heritage. This website, maintained by historian Brandy M. Watts Martin, serves as a valuable resource for preserving the region's history for future generations. Discover the stories and scenic landscapes that make Stony Valley a cherished destination!
