About Stopwaste
StopWaste is a public agency that actively works to reduce waste, promote recycling, and encourage efficient use of resources such as water and energy in Alameda County. Governed by the Alameda County Waste Management Authority, the Alameda County Source Reduction and Recycling Board, and the Energy Council, StopWaste provides a range of services to businesses, residents, and schools. At home, StopWaste helps residents reduce food waste through planning, storing, and composting.
They also offer free drop-off for household hazardous waste, ensuring toxins are kept out of landfills. In addition, StopWaste supports the implementation of the reusable bag law to minimize plastic waste in our waterways. In the workplace, StopWaste assists businesses and property managers in complying with recycling and composting ordinances.
They also offer support in adopting more sustainable packaging practices and facilitate food donations to reduce landfill waste. Through educational initiatives, StopWaste helps students and the community address environmental concerns and implement the 4Rs - Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Rot/Compost. They provide grants and support for innovative reuse and food waste reduction projects, as well as energy upgrade programs for multifamily buildings.
