STORIES of Space is a project by Stellar Communications, LLC that invites people to share personal narratives and carry them into remarkable environments beyond Earth. Its goal is to make space exploration more accessible and highlight how stories and imagination can shape the way people think about exploring space. Participants can submit stories for missions involving zero-gravity flights, sub-orbital journeys, the stratosphere, the sea, the International Space Station, and the Moon.
The project’s first mission sent a pilot payload to the International Space Station, where it was scheduled to be exposed to the conditions of space for six months before returning to Earth. Its lunar archive initiative is partnering with Uplift Aerospace and Astrolab to include submitted stories on the FLIP Rover, using 5D crystal data storage. This technology records information inside glass crystals with lasers and is designed to preserve data for exceptionally long periods, including in harsh environments.
