Stranraer Water Sports Association is a friendly, community-run organisation based on the shores of Loch Ryan in Stranraer, Scotland. Founded in 2016, it welcomes people of all experience levels, from seasoned sailors and swimmers to complete beginners, and works to make water sports accessible, affordable and enjoyable for everyone.
The association offers a wide range of activities, including sailing, stand-up paddleboarding, coastal rowing, kayaking, canoeing, windsurfing, powerboating and open-water swimming. Its programmes include instructor-led taster sessions, activities for children and young people aged eight and over, and multi-activity days during school holidays. Participants can also access accredited training, including Royal Yachting Association qualifications and British Canoeing Paddle Awards.
Members benefit from discounted sessions and training, organised activities and connection with a local community. The association also hosts water sports events, including SkiffieWorlds 2025 and the Fin & Foil Championships. Its setting on Loch Ryan offers sheltered waters, striking scenery and convenient access to Stranraer, while the organisation is developing a new Water Sports Hub to support its activities and events.
