STRING

STRING is a cross-border cooperation organization bringing together cities and regions in Germany, Denmark, Sweden and Norway across the Northern European Hamburg–Oslo corridor. Spanning a megaregion of approximately 14 million people, it works to build a more connected, competitive and sustainable region, strengthen its resilience and advance the green transition.

Its work focuses on two linked priorities: infrastructure and connectivity, and enhancing competitiveness. STRING seeks to address transport and energy bottlenecks and support reliable, low-emission connections. Shared infrastructure priorities include Fehmarn Belt hinterland links, the Hamburg transport node, Öresund fixed links and the Gothenburg–Oslo railway. The organization also connects businesses, universities, innovation ecosystems and investment promotion agencies to encourage collaboration, talent mobility and the growth of sustainable industries.

Through political advocacy, partnerships and cross-border projects, STRING helps turn common priorities into action. It uses research, data and analysis to guide cooperation and inform decision-making, sharing evidence through reports, events and its 2026–2030 strategy. Its Secretariat supports the implementation of political decisions and coordinates STRING’s day-to-day work.
