Stroud Local History Society is a membership organisation dedicated to researching and sharing the history of Stroud and its surrounding communities in Gloucestershire, England. With more than 100 members, the society brings together local historians and anyone interested in the area’s past. It holds monthly indoor meetings in Stroud town centre from autumn to spring, and arranges visits for members during the summer.
Members’ research and society archives form a wide-ranging resource on local people, places, businesses and events, including mills, railways, schools, churches, hospitals and the woollen industry. The society’s website offers historical articles, photographs, documents, maps, research links and a People and Places Index, as well as a digital town trail and information about past meetings. It also publishes and sells books and booklets on subjects such as Stroud’s villages, buildings, industries and wartime history.
Visitors can explore its collections, browse useful local sources, or contact the society with enquiries and research contributions. The society welcomes new members, who can receive news, newsletters and discounts
