LÍS, short for Landssamtök íslenskra stúdenta, is an organization established on November 3, 2013, representing students in Iceland and Icelandic students abroad. LÍS serves as an umbrella organization for eight member associations, including students from the University of Akureyri, the University of Bifröst, the Agricultural University of Iceland, the Iceland Academy of the Arts, the University of Iceland, the University of Hólar, and the Reykjavik University, as well as Icelandic students studying abroad. With roughly 20,000 Icelandic students under its stewardship, LÍS works to safeguard the interests of students both nationally and internationally, while fostering collaboration between Icelandic student associations.

Their role includes active participation in international student cooperation and the coordination of academic quality across Icelandic universities. LÍS also engages in negotiations, advocacy, and representation on behalf of Icelandic students. Through its leadership structure, including the Executive Committee and various committees, LÍS carries out its functions and tasks, such as organizing conferences and events related to student issues, conducting quality assessments of education, promoting international student activities, and appointing student representatives to different committees. LÍS is affiliated with the European Students’ Union (ESU), providing crucial support and representation for Icelandic students at the European level. Additionally, LÍS collaborates with the Nordic and Eastern European Student Organization (NOM), a partnership of student associations from the Nordic countries and Eastern European countries.
