About Studio FraJas
Studio FraJas is a unique ceramic design collaboration between artists Francisco Rocha Salazar and Jasper Isaac Johns, blending artistic traditions from San Luis Potosí, Mexico, and Ann Arbor, Michigan. The duo met as undergraduates at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), where Francisco specialized in Painting and Jasper in Ceramics. Their creative process distinguishes between potters and decorators, allowing for a dynamic interplay between form and surface.
Jasper wheel throws simple yet elegant shapes such as domes, cylinders, and spheres, transforming them into both utilitarian and architectural vessels. His expert craftsmanship softens the geometric profiles with gentle concavities and flared rims. Meanwhile, Francisco intricately designs patterns influenced by the underlying geometry of each piece, creating an illusion of movement that captivates the eye.
