Sumeru e. V. is a nonprofit martial arts and self-defence club based in Berlin-Tempelhof, offering training in traditional Japanese Jiu-Jitsu and Zazen meditation.
Its Jiu-Jitsu programme combines martial arts practice with practical self-defence, emphasizing balanced development across different technical areas. Training explores how to respond to attacks by using an opponent’s energy, reflecting the art’s principle of “gentle technique. ” The club aims to make classes enjoyable and challenging while supporting personal development, fitness, and health.
Sessions also include free fighting, but the club does not participate in competitions. Alongside regular Jiu-Jitsu classes on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday, Sumeru holds a Zazen meditation session on Thursday evening. Newcomers can attend two trial classes free of charge and are asked to arrive five minutes early.
Monthly membership is listed at €55 for working adults and €45 at the reduced rate for students, school pupils, apprentices, and unemployed people. The dojo is located on Bosestrasse near Manteuffelstrasse, with nearby U-Bahn and bus connections
