— Sumter United Ministries

Sumter United Ministries is a countywide nonprofit serving people and families in need throughout Sumter County. Grounded in Christian faith and inspired by the Good Samaritan, the organization brings churches and community members together to provide compassionate, practical support across denominational, racial, and social lines. Its work focuses on helping people overcome immediate hardship while encouraging independence and productive lives.

The ministry offers crisis relief, financial assistance, home repair through its Construction Ministry, medical care through its Medical Ministry, emergency shelter through its Shelter Ministry, and education assistance. Its construction efforts include building wheelchair ramps and repairing roofs, while its medical services include care from volunteer providers. Community members can support the work by donating, providing meals for shelter guests or clinic volunteers, volunteering as receptionists, interviewing clients, or helping with construction projects. Sumter United Ministries also offers planned giving and invites local businesses to participate through its Business Alliance Partners. By combining direct assistance with community involvement, the organization seeks to rebuild homes, lives, and hope in Sumter County.
