Sunderland Cardiac

Sunderland Cardiac Support Group is a registered charity run entirely by volunteers, supporting people in Sunderland and surrounding districts who have experienced cardiac trauma, as well as their partners and carers. Founded in 1993, the group helps members work towards recovery, wellbeing and a fuller life through exercise, peer support and social connection. It is part of the British Heart Foundation’s Independent Group Network.

Members can take part in Phase IV cardiac rehabilitation sessions led by qualified fitness instructors. The sessions are designed for individual needs and abilities, with warm-ups, moderate exercise and cool-downs in a relaxed, supportive setting. They are currently free for members, and newcomers can attend a free taster session. The group also welcomes people aged 60 and over who want to improve their health through its Active at 60 activities.

Alongside exercise, the charity holds free monthly social meetings featuring refreshments, occasional entertainment, guest speakers and quizzes. These gatherings offer members and guests an opportunity to meet others and build supportive friendships.
