Sun Devil Motorsports is Arizona State University’s Formula SAE team, bringing together more than 300 student engineers to design, build, and race two open-wheel cars each season: one powered by an internal combustion engine and one electric. Founded in 1986, the program takes each vehicle from an initial concept through design, machining, composites, electronics, and race strategy, with students carrying out the work themselves. The team competes against more than 100 universities at Michigan International Speedway and participates in Formula SAE events.
Its history includes early recognition for engineering design, a team-record 470. 1 points in 2024, and plans for an electric-car debut in 2027. Sun Devil Motorsports also offers organizations opportunities to support the team through sponsorship tiers, with contributions funding prototype materials, tools, and competition expenses.
Sponsors can gain visibility on a student-built race car, while individuals can support the program through donations. The team is based at Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona
