Identification of current shortfall of modern research facilities in the department for researching deformation study of metallic materials, and formation of a research group (containing both faculty members and postgraduate research students) to share and enhance specialized knowledge in this field. Procurement of laboratory equipment for hot rolling, high-temperature tensile test, and phase characterization; textbooks and handbooks for the research group; material selection and simulation software packages, website development, and other IT facilities dedicated to the research group. Perform innovative and fundamental research by academic staff and postgraduate research students on the effects of temperature during cold and hot deformation of materials, develop new metallic alloys to obtain better mechanical properties by producing ultra-fine grained (approximately nano-sized crystal) microstructure. Organization of a seminar to disseminate knowledge and skill to researchers, students, and local manufacturing plants on rolling and deformation behavior of metallic alloys, and suggestions of alternate production schedule to produce better-quality products.
