Sun Safety at Work Canada (SSAWC) is dedicated to enhancing sun safety across Canadian workplaces by addressing the serious hazards posed by solar UV radiation. These hazards can lead to preventable conditions such as skin cancer, heat stress, and eye damage. Recognizing the challenges in implementing sun safety measures, SSAWC aims to raise awareness and support organizations in building effective sun safety programs that integrate with their occupational health and safety management systems.
The initiative began with collaboration among 17 diverse workplaces throughout Canada, allowing for the development of tailored sun safety resources based on best practices gathered from both national and international contexts. The website provides comprehensive guides and tools designed to be incorporated directly into workplace safety protocols. Funded by Health Canada and the Alberta Ministry of Labour and Immigration, SSAWC continues its mission through the ongoing efforts of its Working Group, ensuring that sun safety remains a priority in protecting workers from preventable health risks while fostering a culture of safety in outdoor environments.
