Susan Obrant

Susan Obrant is an artist whose work spans fine art, wearable art, photography, and performance costuming. Her practice includes oil paintings of women, men, landscapes, and still lifes, alongside drawings made with conte crayon, pastel, or colored pencil. She also creates abstract works, describing abstraction as a stage for a wordless play that invites viewers to imagine and interpret.

Obrant’s couture crochet brings art into clothing, combining fiber, form, and personal expression in pieces clients can wear. She offers couture crochet, portraiture, and giclée prints, and works with clients through private studio appointments or modern technology. Her photography includes street and subway scenes, reflecting her early interest in the camera as an artistic tool.

Her work has appeared in exhibitions, including Between I & Thou at Hudson Valley MOCA, and in installation projects pairing paintings with mannequins dressed in her wearable art. Obrant has also created costumes for performers and dance companies, including Heidi Latsky Dance Company, and dressed Audra McDonald and her dancers for Hello Again.
